Lidl GB and Bath Rugby (Arena 1865) have exchanged contracts on part of the land owned by the club at Lambridge, Bath, with the intention that Lidl GB will deliver a bespoke new and highly sustainable food store beside Bath RFC’s existing training facilities.
The agreement will secure significant investment for Bath Rugby whilst enhancing the food provision on the East side of Bath for the local community. At the same time, Bath Rugby have also permanently transferred the long-leasehold interest in the training pitches and clubhouse at Lambridge to Bath RFC, securing the amateur club’s long-term, future at Lambridge. These facilities, which are currently run by Bath RFC, are used by Bath RFC Juniors, Bath Rugby Ladies 1st, 2nd and 3rd teams; Bath Ladies Trojans mixed ability team; and other organisations including Bath Rugby Foundation and local schools.
While detailed development plans are yet to be progressed, some artist’s impressions of how the store could look can be found below.
Lidl is committed to delivering a high-quality sensitive building design with consideration to the local setting, and is proposing to use local Bath stone and natural timber cladding. The store proposals will also feature sustainability measures such as a green roof, air source heat pumps, Electric Vehicle rapid chargers, LED lighting, Building Management System, and a heat recovery system recycling heat emitted from store refrigeration.
Before a planning application is submitted to Bath & North East Somerset Council, Lidl will undertake detailed public consultation. This website will be updated with further information in due course.
In the meantime, if you have any questions about the proposals, please email lidllondonroadbath@new-stores.co.uk or call 0800 089 0361.
